About Lab

Welcome to our Lab: Our research focus is on the characterization of quasi-brittle materials like Carbon/Carbon composites, Graded light-weight composite materials, Ultra high-performance concretes, Snow, and Bone. We utilize multiscale microstructurally informed modeling for the mechanical, thermomechanical, and fracture characterization of these hierarchical materials. We also use traditional and non-traditional approaches for the design of high-performance structures.

Continuum micromechanics, Experimental mechanics, Multiscale modeling of composites, Fracture and damage mechanics, Homogenization, Carbon/Carbon composites, Microstructure-based finite element analysis.

CURRENT OPENINGS

Multi-scale characterization of the damage induced due to the thermal shock in the carbon/carbon composite materials

This study addresses the challenge of evaluating thermal shock resistance in C/C composites used for re-entry vehicle protection systems, using non-destructive 3D characterization with X-ray tomography and image-based finite element modeling to predict damage evolution.
